Inspired by her interests in fashion and Art Deco, American artist Trish Biddle has created the image for the official 2009 Westminster Kennel Club poster, "Westminster. There's only one."
Her oil painting depicts an evening street scene outside Madison Square Garden and features representative breeds from all seven Groups. "Uno", Westminster's 2008 Best in Show winner, walks front and center, while the Empire State Building, aglow with Westminster's signature purple and gold colors, sets the stage. Ms. Biddle's penchant for fashion is evident, as stylish dog lovers stroll past a Westminster-themed Saks Fifth Avenue window, another New York City icon.
Ms. Biddle (www.trishbiddle.com) has over 40 works published internationally, and collectors around the world appreciate her expertise in capturing nature and light to create richly-colored, vintage-inspired art. The Art Deco Period is a favorite source of inspiration for her, as she incorporates the fashion, sophistication and simplicity of that era into her paintings. Born in Minneapolis and now living in Westlake, Texas, she studied at the Dallas Institute of Art before beginning her career as an illustrator and textile designer. Her process of drawing, painting and designing eventually melded onto canvases, creating romantic, elegant images.
Ms. Biddle was commissioned to create the coveted "Art of the Kentucky Derby" posters series for 2008 (www.derbyartgifts.com). Her stylized version of America's greatest horse race was highly-regarded, and surpassed all previous retail sales marks for a Derby poster.
